Document
A Sandvox document is a folder or package (in Mac OS X terms) where a site is stored on your computer. A Sandvox document acts like and is treated like a single file as far as the Finder is concerned, but it actually contains all the information about the document, including embedded media, in a number of individual files. It contains all the information necessary to publish the site.
Earlier versions of Sandvox (1.2.x) produced documents that actually were a single file; when the current version of Sandvox opens such documents, it will convert them to the new format.
As you work on a site, Sandvox automatically saves all of it into a single document file. The exception is media files: You choose whether they are kept in the document or linked to. For information, please see the "Media" article.
When you publish a site, Sandvox uses the document to produce all the individual files that make up the published site, like this:

Sandvox Upgrades
When Sandvox is upgraded, changes are sometimes made to the way the contents of Sandvox documents are stored. This means that if you open a site in a newer version of Sandvox, you may be prompted to upgrade the document.
If you accept, Sandvox will upgrade the document and also save a copy of the old document just in case. The new version will only work with the updated version of Sandvox.
