Moving a Sandvox document to another computer
Moving a site for editing to another computer requires careful attention. Because a Sandvox document is actually a package of files, how you copy it depends on whether that package includes merely aliases to, or full copies of, all media files you have included in that document. (See the “Media” article for full details about these document settings.)
Discussion
If the media preferences of your document are set to “Automatic” or “Reference all files”, this means that Sandvox uses “aliases” for common locations when it brings in media. For example, if you bring in a photo from your iPhoto collection, Sandvox recognizes that it’s from iPhoto and just stores an alias to that photo, rather than copying the photo into the document.
So, if you were to then move that document to another computer, the alias would only work if you have the exact same set up on that other computer, meaning, your account, or home folder, had the same name, and you had iPhoto set up on that computer and that computer’s iPhoto had the same photo in it, named exactly the same thing. If everything is not an exact match, Sandvox will show a ? in place of the photo on the other machine when you open the document.
Using aliases for media is a convenience and results in smaller document sizes, since Sandvox doesn't need to maintain its own copy.
However, if want to move your Sandvox .svxSite document(s) between machines, DO NOT use Automatic. The chances of you having everything set up as an exact match on the other machine are probably pretty small.
Instead, use “Copy all files.” Just open your document and use the Site Inspector → Media to change that pop-up to Copy all files. This will make Sandvox copy all media into the document during the next save. You can then take the document to another machine and not worry about references to other files.
