Banner
Some site designs feature a banner; a large image across the top of the page. For example, the Crimson Royale design:
Sandvox allows you to replace the banner with one of your own choosing.
To set the banner image of a site:
- Open the Site Inspector.
- Go to the Media tab.
- Drag your new banner image to the box labeled "Banner." This can be from the Media Browser, the Finder, or another application.
Sizing
Banner images can be a maximum of 800 pixels wide and 300 pixels high.
- If you try to use an image wider than 800 pixels, Sandvox will shrink it to that width.
- If the image is taller than 300 pixels (even after shrinking), Sandvox will crop it to be 300 pixels high.
However, the actual space available for the banner varies from design to design:
| Design | Banner Width | Banner Height |
|---|---|---|
| Wall | 776 | 200 |
| Serengeti | 767 | 200 |
| No Parking Anytime | 749 | 144 (275 on the home page) |
| Night Breeze | 764 | 300 |
| Imagine | 766 | 200 |
| Glass Box | 749 | 134 (265 on the home page |
| Earth & Sky | 760 | 160 |
| Dolphin Dance | 760 | 200 |
| Crimson Royale | 738 | Varies with size of Site Title |
| Clockwork | 760 | 200 |
| Cathedral | 749 | 144 (265 on the home page) |
Sandvox will attempt to fit your supplied banner image to this size as well as it can. The image will be centered horizontally, and then aligned at the top; the excess is cropped. If this is not to your satisfaction, try cropping the image (using an application such as Preview) to a more appropriate size and use that.
Banner Image Sources
- freewebpageheaders.com has a large number of images available for free, as long as your site is for non-commercial use and they are credited.
- The Masthead Factory provides custom banners. At their checkout you can input the size required to match your Sandvox design.
Of course, you can also use any photos you might have taken - just be sure to crop them appropriately first.
