Text
Note: This article is on Text pages and pagelets, not editing of text in general. For information on that subject, please see the "Text Editing" article.
Text pages and pagelets are central to most web sites created using Sandvox. They consist of a block of text which you can edit, format, and insert images into. If you are working with a text page, you can also place pagelets in the text as callouts.
Ways to add a Rich Text Page or Pagelet to a site:
- Use the "Pages" or "Pagelets" items in the toolbar.
- Choose "Add Page" or "Add Pagelet" from the Site menu.
- Drag a Plain Text, Rich Text, or Microsoft Word document to the Site Outline or Web View. (See additional notes below.)
Importing
You can create Text pages from pre-existing content by importing some file types. At present the supported formats are:
- Plain Text (.txt)
- Rich Text (.rtf)
- Microsoft Word (.doc)
Note: Not all Microsoft Word format versions are supported, because of changes that Microsoft makes in the format over time. It's simple enough to work around this limitation: Just open Word files with Apple's TextEdit application and save them in Rich Text format (.rtf) and then import the .rtf file into Sandvox.
Microsoft Word Pasting
If you are pasting in content from Microsoft Word, you may find some formatting problems arise, because Word puts convoluted HTML on the clipboard when you copy its text. You may wish to paste any text that you copy from Microsoft in using Paste and Match Style to clear the formatting on the clipboard.
Editing
Initially when a page or pagelet is created, it contains some placeholder text. This text should be replaced with your desired text. When you click the inspector on a text page or pagelet, you will not see a selection editor, because there are no specific attributes for a Text page or pagelet. The general page attributes or general pagelet attributes apply, of course.
For more information on editing a Text page or pagelet, please see "Text Editing."
