Link
Links are used to connect the pages of your site together. Both embedded images and almost any text in a site can be made into a link. A link can be to another page in your site, or to an external page.
The color of a link is determined by the site's design. You cannot change this color without modifying the design itself. To do so requires a degree of CSS knowledge, and is not recommended for the majority of our users. If you do have the required knowledge, have a look at our Designer's Guide article on the subject.
The Link Destination Panel
To work with a link, you use the Link Destination Panel:
To link to an external page, type the address of the page into the box. To link to another page of your site, drag the
icon to the page in the Site Outline like so:
Check the "Open link in new window" box to open the link in a new window. To dismiss the Link Destination Panel, click anywhere outside of it or press the return key.
When you click on a link in Sandvox it does not open. It assumed that you would rather work with the text that makes up the link than follow the link itself. If you do want to follow the link, hold down the Shift key and click it.
Creating, Editing and Removing Links
To create a link:
- Select some text and then do one of the following:
- Click the "Create Link" item in the toolbar.
- Choose "Create Link…" from the Edit menu.
- Control-click the text and choose "Create Link…" (only applies to text within the main content area of the page)
or:
- Drag one of the following into a text area:
- A bookmark from the Media Browser.
- A URL from another application such as Safari.
If you have it set in your Preferences, Sandvox will automatically set any new links to point to the page you are currently viewing in Safari.
To edit an existing link:
- Click part of the text surrounding the link to begin editing it.
- Double-click or drag the mouse to select part of the link.
- Click the "Edit Link" item in the toolbar or choose "Edit Link…" from the Edit menu.
The color of links is part of the site's design; you cannot change it.
To remove an existing link:
- Click part of the text surrounding the link to begin editing it.
- Double-click or drag the mouse to select part of the link.
- Click the "Edit Link" item in the toolbar or choose "Edit Link…" from the Edit menu.
- Click the
icon in the Link Destination Panel.
E-mail Links
To create a link to an e-mail address:
- Type the full e-mail address normally.
- Select the address.
- Click the "Create Link" item in the toolbar. Sandvox automatically interprets the text to be an e-mail address.
So, for example with the address me@mywebsite.com, Sandvox automatically sets the link's address to be mailto:me@mywebsite.com. When a visitor clicks on the link, their e-mail client will begin a new message to the address.
Note that by doing this, you do expose the e-mail address to spammers and such-like. You could consider using a Contact Form instead to provide protection.
Link Color
Unlike other text, you cannot change the color of a link. The color used is set by the design of the site and cannot be changed without modifying the design itself.
